Pitch and setbacks

How row pitch and setback constraints control placement density, shading-related spacing, and keep-out compliance.

Updated 2026-08-22

Pitch is the spacing between rows. It is both an energy/shading decision and a civil/constructability decision. The layout engines treat row pitch as a controllable geometric parameter, not as decoration.

Pitch

Tighter pitch increases DC density and can increase shading and O&M difficulty. Wider pitch reduces table count for a given envelope. The “right” pitch is a project decision. The software’s job is to apply the chosen pitch consistently and to show collisions when it does not fit.

Setbacks

Setbacks include fence insets and other offsets from non-buildable edges. Placement that crosses a setback is a layout error, not a rounding detail.

Collision awareness

The rendering and geometry layers can flag setback collisions and show non-buildable layers. If a row is in the keep-out, counts derived from that row are not bid-ready.

Layout revisions should record pitch and setback changes so estimating does not inherit an old density.
